Cocaine detox involves a controlled process of clearing the drug out of the addict’s system. Like other substance detoxification process, detox from cocaine must be done in a medically supervised inpatient facility to effectively address the withdrawal symptoms that are directly associated with the cessation of cocaine use. Before even considering this procedure, make sure to consult a healthcare professional first to give you an idea on what to expect.

It is essential that the detoxification process must be facilitated in a well-supervised setting such as a drug detox facility or a rehab clinic to closely monitor the progress of the patient. In addition to that, the patient will have to spend a certain period of time inside the detox facility so they can control their cravings more effectively. Remember that cocaine is a highly addictive drug therefore the patient must be kept away from the temptation to give in to their binges.

The length of the detox program will depend on the severity of the patient’s cocaine addiction. Some may last for several weeks, while others may take months to avoid the risk of relapse. Before the detox process, the patient will have to undergo physical and psychological assessment to determine their current condition and the extent of the cocaine addiction. After that, the doctor will thoroughly explain and discuss the procedure to ensure that the patient is aware of what he/she is getting into.

The patient must be physically and mentally prepared to face the consequences of drug detox to ensure that he/she will be able to withstand the agonizing process. Normally, cocaine withdrawal will start to manifest 12-24 hours after the initial detoxification begins. These symptoms are expected to intensify in the succeeding days but will slowly diminish within a week. That being said, continuous medical supervision and monitoring is highly recommended during cocaine detox.

This week I attended a workshop led by an amazing man from the far east whose work I have followed for a long time.

I played the role of needlessly excited student throughout the workshop: If he wanted a volunteer, I put my hand up and shouted “Me! Me! Me!” I sat at the front of the class, I went to speak to him during the breaks and I agreed with most things that were being said… Basically, I regressed to an 8-15 year old at various times throughout the event!

This I put down to the fact that I love learning and I was in awe of this particular man and his work. He actually said very little to me. The things he did say made a massive impact on me and it showed me that sometimes the smallest of things can have the most profound effect on us – observations especially.

He observed that I was very energetic and he also observed that I was a wee bit drained of energy; “Well, let’s get that replenished in the first meditation of the evening…” he said. I want to share with you a combination of that meditation and some self-hypnosis for some great effect.

This technique is a step by step guide that combines self-hypnosis and some self-inner guidance with the idea of balancing your chakras. Now it is not really important to know what your chakras are – in brief, they are regarded as central energy points in your body in Eastern medicine and philosophy. They have certain colours associated with them that are going to be integrated into this technique within your mind.

I know it made me feel wonderfully energised, refreshed and very well balanced afterwards.

Step One: Find a place where you are not going to be disturbed for a while and allow you eyelids to close. Imagine that as you close your eyelids, they melt and relax into your face and begin to send relaxation throughout your body.

Create some expectation; we all know how hypnotic expectation is, don’t we? Tell yourself that in a few moments you’re going to enter one of the most relaxed states that you’ve ever known.

You can take yourself into self-hypnosis (if you don’t know how, go get my book) or use any good meditation technique or relaxation strategy that you know. Take a few moments to focus on your breathing and engage in the moment. Notice what you are thinking and feeling.

Step Two: Using your imagination, begin now to sense that you are floating on a soft cloud, almost like it is a mist that is gentle, soft, and completely supportive. It melds and moulds itself to the exact contours of your body, imagine that you settle deeply into it and take sufficient time to really develop that comfort.

Imagine that the cloud is a beautiful, soft yet strong, strawberry red colour.

Imagine that the wonderful red mist gently envelops your entire being. Sense that it is bathing you in a soft and gentle relaxation.

Let that red mist move throughout your body, drawing away anything unwanted, leaving you in a soft, peaceful state. Imagine that red colour in each and every cell of your being. Let that red mist sink into the very depths of the centre of your mind.

Spread that red all through you, reaching all the way down to the tips of your toes, all the way down to the very tips of your fingers and feel yourself in harmony with this natural red colour as your body is feeling more and more balanced and alive.

Let the red mist focus around the base of your spine. Maybe you can even imagine that your spine vibrates in harmony with red and the entire area of the lower back and spine goes into a total relaxation. When you really engage in doing this, you can create some magnificent sensations.

Imagine and sense that you are in tune with nature and all of nature is in tune with you. Breathe that red, gentle mist in and now allow a little, tiny red bird to gently glide around you, wrapping your body in a soft, red, blanket of balance and relaxation.

If you are not a fan of birds, then you can of course imagine anything else – angels or a loved one, or that the blanket wraps itself around you unaided. Choose what suits you personally.

Step Three: Having done this inside your mind, next up imagine floating on a soft, almost peach-like orange colour. Allow yourself to be in harmony with this orange (just as you were with the red) and right around the area of your abdomen there is an energy centre that vibrates with this colour of orange.

Allow this orange mist to bring this gentle softness, this natural awareness to your body and feel it almost like a sponge, absorbing and releasing anything you might need to let go of, bathing you in a soft mist of peace, relaxation and comfort. Feel and sense anything unwanted being absorbed into the mist from all the parts of your body.

Allow this orange to penetrate your body and give you peace and comfort, feel the freedom as you do this. Feel yourself relaxing more and more as this orange mist flows in and around all the parts of your abdomen. Then in whatever way you feel resonates with you the best, imagine a little orange ribbon gliding gently and gently carrying the mist over and around and through your body, your body wonderfully at ease and relaxed. Take enough time to really enjoy doing this.

Step Four: Now in your mind’s eye imagine yourself floating on a yellow mist, the soft colour of lemon, beautiful, lemon yellow right there in the centre of your chest.

Take all the time you need to really be in harmony with this colour of yellow and the middle area of your body and the centre of your chest is relaxing more and more as you can imagine that area has an energy centre that vibrates to the colour yellow. Breathe in the soft yellow mist, the comfort of that gentle softness with each breath that you take really let it flow throughout you now, let it move through your entire being.

Allow your body to be at peace as the yellow mist eases and soothes your body.

Imagine that all of nature is in tune with this yellow and you are in tune with nature. Feel the freedom of the atmosphere that you are creating in your mind.

As we did previously, now imagine a silky ribbon of yellow, floating gently around you, wrapping the mist of balance and awareness around your body with a blanket of gentle, soothing tranquillity.

Breathe in the yellow velvety mist as it bathes you in a sea of peace, taking all the time you need to sense deep comfort.

Step Five: Then imagine that you are floating on a green mist, actually begin to see, sense, imagine and feel a green mist all around you, absorbing into your skin, feeling immersed, enveloped in that green mist, a beautiful colour of green. Green as lush grass.

And as you breathe in this soft, green mist the gentle softness is all around your heart, and you feel your heart begin to relax all around that area, all the way up to the area of your throat. As you relax imagine that you can feel your heart opening, opening and connecting with the world around you.

Imagine that your chest and your heart area vibrates now to the colour of green and feel the peace and the relaxation that that brings. Begin to feel this green bringing the relaxation all through your body, gentle softness, this wonderful green colour.

Anything unwanted around your heart is being absorbed by that green, floating it away, drawing it away, leaving only peace, balance and comfort in its place. Each time that you breathe in the mist of the green, imagine and feel your body becoming even more limp, loose, safe, and comfortable.

Feel the green cleansing and freeing you, allowing your body to work in perfect harmony with nature just as it was intended to do. Then imagine a soft, silky green ribbon, floating around you… as with the previous steps.

Step Six: Ok, so now just imagine yourself floating on a mist of blue. Just engage your mind in that idea that you are gently floating peacefully on this beautiful blue colour. While doing that, allow your throat and your neck relax all the way up through the back of your neck and your throat and your neck are feeling calm and relaxed.

Breathe in the blue air and feel it drifting and floating throughout your entire body. Allow this gentle blue mist to draw up and soften and balance all the muscles in your body. Think that your body is at peace as the blue mist works through it and soothes it.

Imagine that the blue mist carries takes away anything unwanted, leaving only comfort, ease and safety.

Once again, imagine that all of nature is in tune with blue and you are in tune with nature. Your body has been perfectly designed to work in harmony with nature and so let all the natural processes of just ‘being’ occur for you while you are doing this.

Feel the comfort increasing within you as the blue mist fills every cell and every muscle and now imagine that silky ribbon, floating around your body, gently touching your body with a blanket of blue mist, bathing you in a sea of total relaxation.

Step Seven: Finally, imagine yourself floating on a misty cloud of violet, a beautiful violet-rosy colour, a very soft combination that creates a nice lavender colour.

Imagine that the soft colour of violet, that very soft purple, penetrates your body and allow yourself to go deeper into your own mind. Imagine that you draw this purple into your body. Feel that beautiful colour bringing you serenity and peace.

Ensure that you feel safe and comfortable on this beautiful soft purple mist. Tune into nature, tune into this natural feeling with this violet colour you are in and begin to breathe in the gentle violet mist. Breathe it in and feel the muscles of your mind working in harmony with the way that nature intended.

Feel yourself totally relaxed, feeling the wonderful things that are happening within your body at this moment.

Step Eight: Now inside your mind, imagine a combination of all the colours you have been thinking of throughout this technique form a rainbow and surround you. Imagine that they combine to form a beautiful white light, purifying, cleansing, filling your body and your mind with the glorious sense of comfort, rejuvenation and balance.

Right there at the top of your head, bring that light in, a beautiful clear bright light, floating all the way down through your entire body, filling all the spaces between all of the cells, bringing you the comfort of knowing that you deserve to have the experience of a peaceful, balanced, energised life.

Step Nine: Now allow yourself to be completely immersed in this beautiful rainbow of the energy of life, you allow your mind and your body to be very receptive, very open to creating the experience that you want and that you deserve.

Bask in the colours for as long as you like.

Step Ten: When you are ready, you can allow yourself to come back to the awareness of the place that you are in. Tell yourself that when you open your eyes, you feel very balanced, very balanced and energized. Then open your eyes, wiggle your fingers and toes, reacquaint with your surroundings and enjoy being more balanced and refreshed.

Take some time to really balance yourself and get recharged in this way – it is so lovely to do so.

Drug addiction is one sad state of affair that basically every country, in fact the youth of today, is facing like a whirlpool that individuals get caught up in rapidly, but then, saving a life out of that traumatic condition is none the less more of a challenge. It is not a matter of why but how? The more you extract all the minute details, the more does the issue grow complicated; hence, it is much better to realise the delicacies of how to release the victim out of that storm.

To actually being able to release the individual out of his addiction, the family generally plays a stereotypical role. It is because not only are they emotional due to their blood related bonds but the fact cannot be ignored that any issues in life, especially those like drug addiction, need proper guidance and counselling.

The problem is generally found to be prevailing among teenagers who have this unending craving for the specific drug they use. It could be a stimulator or an anti-depressant that allures an individual to travel anywhere near his fantasy, his ultimate escape.

For this purpose, rehabilitation centres have been established and have gained rapid pace in developing more of such institutions, because every problems that has spread out its roots on a drastic scale needs to be rooted out through professional help.

Now the question is, do they really help, is the change permanent or is it only a phase of temporality that an individual may go through but the magnetic craving is able to overwhelm the sanity of oneself at some traumatic point of life?

The rehabilitation centres have multiple ways of approach in order to cure the addiction. In some cases, it is of a clinical nature, and in others, it is required to understand the psychological state of the individual. Psychological dependency can be counted as a major help because clinically, if we see to it, an individual after all is a human being. He/ she may depend on medication for quite a long time, but how can he/she continue doing so for the rest of his life. It might help, but not in majority of cases.

Psychologically, if a person knows the complications of being a drug addict and the strategies to stay away from a drugs environment, it would not only make a marked impression on his psychological state but he would also be able to retain the importance of what we call a normal life; hence, the relapse of his drug addiction would definitely not meet any sort of culmination for the rest of his life.

Rehabilitation does help in actually saving life of an individual from drowning in an abyss of hell; it definitely solves the problem of drug addiction, but an everlasting impression can only be marked if the entire family of the concerned individual puts in some effort in helping to eliminate the problem as well.

Iron and clinical depression

It is an established fact that iron is very essential for neurological functions and development. Iron deficiency is very prevalent all over the world. This deficiency can lead to depressed neurotransmitter response, leading to clinical depression. When iron is not transported from the blood plasma pool to the cerebrospinal fluid, depression can set in.

The Importance Iron Balance

The importance of iron for sustaining good health cannot be underestimated. Lack of iron can lead to exhaustion, clinical depression, vulnerability to viruses, cancer, and various degenerative conditions.

On the other end of the spectrum, excess iron or change in the iron-binding capability leads to a situation where the free unbound iron causes or aggravates all diseases, infections, cancers and toxicities.

Therefore, in our efforts to acquire the right proportion of iron or lose excess iron, we must not overlook the fact that iron must be bound and properly guided through the body from the time of ingestion to excretion.

If we do not pay attention to bind and properly guide iron during the detoxification process, the toxic effects of iron may nullify its various benefits.

It is very difficult to determine the exact iron content in the body, since no test or combination of tests, under any clinical condition, can give us the accurate estimate.

Before laboratory investigations lead us to any conclusion, it must be understood that the results of each laboratory test may be influenced by factors such as infection, inflammation, liver disease and malignancy. Sometimes laboratory tests are inadequate.

Most elements can either donate or accept electrons in order to attain a stable electronic configuration; but iron can both, donate as well as accept electrons.

Due to this ability of iron, it is highly reactive and can be highly toxic. Hydrogen Peroxide in our body readily dismutates in the presence of iron, giving rise to free radicals. Unbound iron speeds up this process of producing free radicals. Free radicals play havoc by damaging cell structures and ultimately killing the cell, resulting in various diseases.

The role of Proteins

Most living organisms bind iron atoms to protein molecules in order to prevent this damage done by unbound iron. This enables them to restrict the damaging action and take advantage of the various benefits offered by iron.

Proteins play an important role in metabolism by speeding up biochemical reactions by their enzymatic action. Enzymes produced due to chronic inflammation, action of free radicals and change in the related subclinical markers cause a breakdown of connective tissue, which holds the body together.

The words protein, peptide and polypeptide tend to be a little confusing. Although they have common characteristics, they are distinct.

Protein is a complete biological molecule with a three dimensional structure, whereas peptide is a finite chain of amino acids which lacks proper structural arrangement. A polypeptide is an infinite chain of amino acids which also lacks a proper structure.

Biochemical screening is a test done to detect the presence of any disease. Such tests have revealed that every degenerative disease results from six subclinical defects, namely, pH imbalance, anaerobic metabolism, free calcium excess, chronic inflammation, connective tissue breakdown and oxidative stress.

Our body metabolism and exposure to pollution gives rise to extremely reactive ions called free radicals. Free radicals are produced due to iron imbalance which indicates that iron is not bound to protein and therefore, is free to cause damage to cells.

Iron deficiency or Copper deficiency?

Acute inflammation is actually a positive sign since it triggers the immune system to fight diseases and withhold iron. This is kept in mind by health professionals while formulating medications for treating cancer, iron deficiency, excessive tiredness, memory loss and depression.

Sometimes tests show that a person has low iron content in blood serum. Prescribing iron supplements may pose a risk because low iron may actually indicate low copper content.

When clinical tests show low serum iron, elevated Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC) and low Transferrin Saturation, it could not only mean that there is free iron but also a copper deficiency.

How do we know? Let’s get a little technical. Ceruloplasmin is a copper protein complex found in blood plasma. Ferritin is a protein complex that is found in cells, and it stores iron in soluble and non-toxic form. Transferrin is a blood plasma protein that binds iron tightly and therefore, reduces free iron. Now, Ceruloplasmin takes iron from Ferritin and attaches it to Transferrin. Two molecules of iron can be attached to a single molecule of Transferrin. Therefore, there is a vacancy for two iron molecules on every Transferrin molecule. In a normal person, only 30% of these vacancies get filled. When fewer iron molecules are attached to Transferrin, the TIBC rises. This is an indication of low copper. Since copper is low, it cannot produce Ceruloplasmin and the above-mentioned process of attaching iron to Transferrin cannot take place.

In short, clinical tests that show low iron content in blood serum may actually indicate low copper content. Therefore, prescribing iron supplements may aggravate the condition.

What else does free iron indicate?

Also, when there is free iron, it can mean that there are not enough amino acids. Amino acids are the most abundant neurotransmitters available in the brain. Research has shown that a lack of specific neurotransmitters may induce clinical depression. Antidepressants regulate the action of these neurotransmitters thereby providing relief to the person.

Moving towards the Right Solution

If the above-mentioned factors are studied well, a proper diagnosis and treatment for clinical depression can be arrived at.

The risk of infection, disease and high toxic levels can be reduced once we identify iron imbalance. Thereafter appropriate measures must be taken to restore the iron balance. Therefore we must consider a few factors:

1. Since intestinal mucosa contains Transferrin, it must be well maintained.

2. Protein levels should be optimally maintained.

3. The right balance of aerobic-anaerobic metabolism must be attained. Too much of anaerobic metabolism results of production of toxins and resulting in fatigue, which is a symptom of clinical depression.

4. Overpowering acid stress by maintaining alkalinity

5. Getting rid of toxins and organic solvents that may hinder the iron binding action done by proteins.

6. Individuals who are diagnosed to have free iron should take to a diet rich in whole eggs and cultured dairy products.

7. A proper phlebotomy and testing program must be conducted to monitor iron overload.

Since iron deficiency or excess plays a key role at every step in the diagnosis and treatment of clinical depression, we should be careful to monitor its status in order to avoid the chain of events that are triggered by its imbalance.

Last but not least, a clinical depressed person who snores, needs to address to apply snoring remedies in order to stop the snoring and support their biochemistry.

Anemia is an abnormal body condition that occurs when either the number of red blood cells or the amount of hemoglobin in the blood is reduced. Anemia results in a decrease in the ability of the blood to carry oxygen to the cells in the body.

When the cells have poor and inadequate energy, they are unable to perform their normal functions so many important body processes are slowed down and become less efficient. Anemia is a symptom of other problems and is not however considered a disease itself.

The most common cause for having anemia is iron deficiency, which occurs when iron intake is insufficient or when there has been significant blood loss. Anemia is often the first symptom of a myriad of ailments, which include arthritis, infection and major illnesses, like cancer. Chronic inflammation, drug use, hemorrhoids, liver damage, thyroid disorders and dietary deficiencies are a few of the many ailments that can promote anemia.

Among herbs and vegetables, spinach has been commonly used for years to alleviate anemic problems. Spinach has a high iron content, however its chlorophyll content is, perhaps, even more effective in raising the body’s hemoglobin count by building red blood cells. Spinach is a highly nutritious food that is best used to combat fatigue, boost energy levels, increase brain function and reduce age-related, cognitive problems. Spinach is a also a good source of Coenzyme Q-10, whose effects resemble those of vitamin E.

It may be an even be a more powerful antioxidant than vitamin E, since it plays a vital part in the production of energy in every cell of the body. This aids in proper blood circulation, stimulates the immune system, increases tissue oxygenation and has proven anti-ageing effects. It is also said to be beneficial in relieving the temporary symptoms of allergies, asthma, mental function and other associated ailments.

Asparagus root is also an herb high in folic acid, and is essential in the production of new red blood cells, and is very helpful in preventing anemia. Asparagus is an excellent diuretic, since it also acts to increase cellular activity in the kidneys, increasing the rate of urine production.

It also is effective in clearing sediments from the bladder and also aids in dissolving uric acid deposits in the extremities, thereby a good way to treat gout. It is especially useful in bouts of hypertension, where the amount of sodium in the blood far exceeds the present potassium levels.

Aside from the above-mentioned herbs and veggies, it is also advised to have a diet high in iron-rich foods, including eggs, fish, meat, poultry, green leafy vegetables, blackstrap molasses, whole grains, and iron-enriched breads and cereals. Also eat foods high in vitamin C, like citrus fruits and berries, to enhance iron absorption.

Limit consumption of foods containing oxalic acid, including almonds, cashews, chocolate, rhubarb, spinach and most beans. Avoid beer, candy, dairy products and soft drinks. Excessive iron can also be very damaging to liver, heart pancreas and immune system, so do not take extra iron supplements unless directed by a certified physician. Do not smoke also, and try avoiding second-hand smoke.

If there is one time in the life of a woman when it is absolutely essential to take the utmost care of overall health, it is during pregnancy. This is because it is not only the pregnant woman’s health in question but also the health and development of the fetus, or the unborn baby in the womb. With all the hormonal changes going on in a woman’s body during the time of pregnancy, it is absolutely important to take care, especially in case of diet and nutrition, weight gain, development and management of health conditions if any, and so on. Here are some of the aspects of pregnancy care one must not overlook.

Safe weight gain during pregnancy: Gaining weight during pregnancy is important but many pregnant women gain additional weight because of the belief that they must eat for two. To understand how much weight you can safely gain during pregnancy, you need to be aware of your BMI (Body Mass Index) before pregnancy The higher your BMI – or ratio of weight in kilograms to height in square meters – the lower the amount of weight you can add while pregnant.

While in the first trimester you need no additional calories; only in the second and third trimesters will you need 100 – 200 calories more than your regular intake. Ensure this with healthier options such as fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy products, nuts and complex carbohydrates like whole grains.

Right diet during pregnancy: A balanced diet is essential to fitness and good health, and assumes vital importance during pregnancy. Three hundred calories a day, over and above a daily requirement of 1500-2000 calories, is what pregnant women additionally require from the beginning of the second trimester up to delivery. Your diet must include proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals. Protein is essential for the buildup of tissues; folic acid, found in leafy green vegetables, dried beans and peas, and citrus fruits, for example, can prevent preterm delivery, low birth weight and poor fetal growth. Adequate amounts of calcium in your body will meet your unborn baby’s needs for stronger bones and teeth. Right amount of iron is required for hemoglobin production whereas zinc contributes to healthy growth and development of the baby.

Foods to avoid during pregnancy: While you are expected to eat more during pregnancy, you must also leave out certain foods to avoid causing risk to your pregnancy. Fish and sea food, raw meat, raw or uncooked eggs and vegetables, Chinese food, especially because of its MSG content (monosodium glutamate) and caffeinated beverages are some of the foods to be avoided. While raw meat is known to contain toxic elements harmful for both the mother and the unborn baby, high levels of mercury found in sea fish can also pose risks to the fetus. High levels of caffeine may cause miscarriage or low-birth weight. Drinking and smoking by pregnant women are absolute no-s for the serious abnormalities they can cause in the unborn child.

Dealing with pregnancy discomforts: Morning sickness, troubled sleep, frequent urges to urinate are some of the discomforts associated with pregnancy. You can overcome these discomforts through: exercise after taking due advice from your doctor, using pillows to support your lower back, knees and tummy, right nutrition that promotes sleep, trying muscle relaxation techniques and so on.

Gestational diabetes during pregnancy: An increasing number of pregnant women develop gestational diabetes, largely due to a sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits and obesity. It is vital to screen for gestational diabetes in the first trimester and again at around 30 weeks of pregnancy. This is especially important if you’ve had gestational diabetes during a previous pregnancy – around 50 percent of women who have had gestational diabetes earlier develop this condition in a subsequent pregnancy. Regular monitoring, dietary control and insulin, if advised, form the cornerstone of diabetic management during pregnancy.

Dental care during pregnancy: During pregnancy, your risk of developing gum disease (pregnant women may suffer from pregnancy gingivitis – a condition which leads to bleeding of tender gums) goes up, and this can be detrimental to your developing baby’s health. Things to do: Brush and floss regularly. If you are suffering from morning sickness, switch to a bland toothpaste after consulting your doctor. If you have frequent bouts of vomiting, rinse your mouth frequently with water, or mouthwash advised by your dentist. Eat healthy to invest in your child’s oral health. Regular visits to your dentist can flag any signs of gum disease.

Yoga during pregnancy: Practicing yoga during pregnancy can help you cope with taxing symptoms such as morning sickness and fatigue. Asanas (especially those that strengthen the pelvic muscles) and pranayam can also prepare you – mentally and physically – for labor.

Monitoring baby movements during pregnancy: A pregnant woman is advised to monitor fetal movements from the 28th week by keeping track of the daily fetal movements count (DFMC). She must watch out for any variations in the pattern and average count of movements as these could indicate the need for tests to check fetal health. At the same time, pregnant mothers must keep calm while doing the count as anxiety itself could lead to the production of hormones and in turn cause fetal distress.

According to studies and researches, there is no such thing as the best time to conceive, which can suit all women; in fact this is something unique and depends on many different factors and denominators. The fertile period of a woman is supposed to last for a few days and is usually in the middle of the menstrual cycle.

If you want to find out which is the right time for you, you have to keep a very detailed record, calculating the days of the actual period and the days of ovulation, and keeping an ovulation calendar Most women have a hard time to find out which are the ovulation days, because they might have some ovulation symptoms only for a day or two. It is known thought that an ovulating woman has high basal temperature during these days. This method is not easy and it generally takes a few months before someone manages to realize when the fertile days occur each month.

The best way to calculate the ovulation days is to use an ovulation calculator. This is the most effective way to do so, since these calculators are very precise and accurate. Of course there are many women who get pregnant without knowing their exact fertile days, just because it happens this way.

An ovulation calculator can help a woman and a couple, determine the beginning and ending date of the period and the dates of the actual ovulation. They can be bought in drugstores or in online shops and are not costly.

The ability of a woman to conceive on a particular day is an issue of course, but it’s not the only factor that can determine the conception of a baby. In fact, in most cases couples tend to underestimate the importance of the man’s fertility. Not all men have a high sperm count, and that could prove to be a very serious and important problem during the conception efforts.

Anemia treatment can be very simple and painless. Better yet, it can be done drug free, the natural way. Anemia is a very serious condition as it represents a deficiency of red blood cells which carry oxygen to the various parts of our bodies that need oxygen. So let’s have a look at how to tackle this problem and put it in our past.

Were you aware that you can become anaemic from the use of certain prescription medications? This includes some antibiotics or anti-coagulants which help to thin the blood. Sometimes anaemia may be due to suffering a chronic illness or you may acquire it genetically. So it is useful to determine what has caused you to become anaemic in the first place.

Here are some symptoms to be aware of that may indicate that you are anaemic; Shortness of breath, fatigue, heart palpitations, feeling giddy or dizzy, turning pale, and fainting to name the most common. The more severe the anaemia gets the worse the symptoms get (like with any disease) and you could experience chest pain (aka angina), headaches and difficulty walking as your legs start hurting also. Some other symptoms experienced in severe cases include sores in the corners of your mouth, dryness of your mouth and throat, and brittle nails.

Anaemia treatment is vital as, left untreated, it could develop into more serious diseases that could be life-threatening. In the majority of cases anaemia can be treated by improving your diet and by taking iron or folic acid supplements as these are lacking in someone who is anaemic.

You want to look at adding red meat, fish, egg yolks, shellfish and chicken to boost your intake of iron from your diet. Also excellent are dried fruit, nuts and seeds, lentils, beetroot, leafy green vegetables, whole grains (note not whole wheat).

Your best prevention is to stick to a healthy balanced diet making sure that you include proper sources of iron as well as vitamin and B12 which are all essential to the production of healthy red blood cells.

Some things you want to avoid consuming are alcohol, coffee and tea and any other caffeinated drinks like sodas.

Vitamin C helps the body to absorb iron so either get it from your diet or be sure to take a supplement to help your body heal from anaemia.

There are many other natural remedies for anaemia deficiency so I suggest that you do your research into finding what works best for you.

More and more people today have problems with their blood sugar levels being too high, which often leads to a diagnosis of type II diabetes. This is a chronic disease that can cause many health problems and early death if left untreated. The good news is that by making changes in your diet and lifestyle, many people have significantly lowered their blood sugar and even gotten rid of diabetes.* Type II diabetics do produce insulin, but it is not used properly in the body, and hence the cells don’t get enough glucose or the nutrients they need and instead the sugar is left in excess in the bloodstream. In fact, often they produce a lot of insulin, but because it is not being properly utilized, and this high insulin level causes inflammation and other problems in the body.

Common Symptoms

High blood sugar, fatigue and excess urination are the key symptoms of diabetes. You may also have constant hunger with rapid weight gain, dry, itching skin, obesity, high blood pressure and/or accelerated aging.

Common Causes

Many think that type II diabetes may develop at least in part by eating an excess of sugar over a long period of time. This excess of sugar causes your body to produce lots of insulin to try to take care of the overload, and this seems somehow over time to damage the cell receptors that allow the sugar inside. When the cells are insulin-resistant, and they do not accept much sugar — this sugar is instead seen in excess in the blood. In addition, when you eat white sugar, you are not just eating “empty” calories, but what I call “negative” calories. This is because your body uses up minerals, B vitamins and other nutrients in processing that white sugar which is completely devoid of vitamins and minerals! Too many refined foods, especially too much trans fatty acids, can also be a cause, according to many researchers. In addition, low pH and many vitamin, mineral and other nutritional deficiencies can also contribute to developing this insulin resistance.

Some researchers think that our over exposure to chemicals (especially heavy metals such as mercury and cadmium) in our environment today is contributing to the rising incidence of diabetes. Others think that this disease is linked to infection in the pancreas, which may be viral or parasitic in origin. Like with many diseases, there is probably more than one cause, and the causes may be different in different people.

Vitamins, Minerals and Herbal Remedies

There are some studies that show that many vitamins and minerals can help those with blood sugar problems, but some of those that are the most helpful include antioxidants like vitamins B, C and E*. The antioxidants are important because the excess sugar in the blood seems to cause a lot of free radical damage, and the antioxidant vitamins can help counteract that. Vitamins A, B, C and E are all excellent antioxidants, as well as the mineral selenium and ALA/DHLA. Green tea is also high in antioxidants and has shown great promise in helping with blood sugar problems.* The B Complex vitamins are often low in diabetics, perhaps because the excess sugar causes more B to be used up. Vitamin C can also help reduce complications that come with diabetes, like heart disease and blindness*. It can also help to increase insulin tolerance and normalize pancreatic activity.* Vitamin E can also help prevent heart problems*, which are 2 to 4 times more prevalent in diabetics.

Vitamin A is also crucial to diabetics, and vitamin D is needed for the production of insulin*. These are both found in high vitamin cod liver oil or could be taken separately; just make sure and get one with the natural forms of vitamins A and D — some cod liver oils take out the natural one, and add back in the synthetic forms! Cod liver oil has been shown to improve glucose response and other markers of diabetes in several studies*. In fact, some have shown it to be more effective than drugs in controlling excessive blood sugar levels! It has also been shown to lower blood pressure caused by stress-elevated levels of cortisol*. The vitamin A in cod liver oil promotes healing and can protect the retina*, both concerns for diabetics. The vitamin D in cod liver oil promotes the absorption of minerals, like magnesium and calcium, and can therefore reduce blood pressure.* Alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) and DHLA are vitamin-like enzymes needed for converting glucose into chemical energy, or ATP.

As far as minerals, there is some evidence that chromium can help insulin to work better, and so is very important for those with type II diabetes. Doctors in Italy found that those with type II diabetes that took 450 mg of magnesium per day did a better job of clearing sugar from their bloodstreams and producing more insulin than before they took the magnesium supplements. You can get magnesium from coral calcium in a very absorbable form along with calcium and trace minerals. Vanadium (found in olive oil) is needed to drive the sugar in the blood into the cells, and zinc is a co-factor in the production of insulin. All these minerals are also found in sea vegetables, so if you like them by all means eat them or look for them in an all-natural food based nutritional supplement.

According to Bruce Fife in “The Healing Miracles of Coconut Oil”, coconut oil can help to regulate blood sugar. He cites studies that show that coconut oil helps to improve insulin secretion as well as boost the body’s utilization of blood glucose. In addition, those with blood sugar problems often have low energy since the glucose, although in over-abundance in the blood stream, has a hard time getting into the cells. Many have reported having more energy with consumption of virgin coconut oil.

Gymnema is a plant that helps to reduce blood sugar levels by lowering insulin resistance, and Co-Enzyme Q10 also seems to help with both diabetes and the high blood pressure that often accompanies it.*

Foods high in chromium include whole grains, liver, onions, shiitake mushrooms, broccoli, green beans and many types of fruits. You can also get more chromium in your diet by including liver once per week and nutritional yeast every day. However, organic is really better as organic produce tends to contain more nutrients and fewer pesticides.

While healing, many health professionals say it is generally necessary to reduce the amount of carbohydrates in your diet to around 60 grams per day until your blood sugar normalizes. Refined sugars are a big no-no, but even something like whole grain pasta or brown rice should be limited to no more than 1/3 cup per meal (or 15 grams of carbohydrates). You might be able to have a little more if you are getting regular, vigorous exercise. For more info, see “The Schwartzbein Principle” by Diana Schwartzbein, MD. She also recommends small meals and at least 2 snacks per day, each balanced with protein, fats, and a small amount of carbohydrates (7.5 grams). If you don’t reduce carbohydrate and sugar levels in your diet, in our opinion, you will have difficulty healing and you will probably have blood sugar that is too high and causes damage, even if you take supplements.*

We think it is an error to follow a low fat diet if you are diabetic.* Well, we think it’s an error to follow a low fat diet even if you are not diabetic. See the Weston A Price Foundation website for more information. But diabetics especially need to have more fat in their diet to supply much needed nutrients as well as to slow down the absorption of carbohydrates into their bloodstream. In fact, unless eaten to excess, fats have not been shown to contribute to diabetes, except trans fatty acids, that cause insulin resistance*. This means you need to stay away from almost all prepared foods today, as most of them contain trans fatty acids.

Your diet should actually be rich in animal foods with lots of fat to provide the vitamin A, vitamin D and zinc you need. Raw butter, cream, whole milk, cheese and eggs from pastured animals provide vitamins A and D, and red meats and shellfish have lots of zinc. Unfiltered extra virgin olive oil is a good source of vanadium.

There is some anecdotal evidence that celery juice, Jerusalem artichokes, onions and spinach can help restore normal blood sugar levels*. Bitter melon can be found in Asian food markets and can also help lower your blood sugar by increasing the body’s ability to produce insulin*.

Note: If you make significant changes in your diet, including food and supplement intake, you want to make sure and have your blood sugar levels retested if you are on any diabetes medication, to see if you need to have it decreased.

Other Ideas

Exercise is very important for diabetics. A walk or even some more vigorous type of exercise an hour or two after each meal may be very helpful, as the exercise helps to drive the blood sugar out of the blood into the cells.

Stress also can raise blood sugar levels, and so in addition to all the above including adding more nutrients like vitamins to your diet, it is possible that a change in job or lifestyle may be necessary to keep your blood sugar levels in balance.*
